Wakefield Estate Offers Workshop on Tree Propagation
1 session in 2 parts, morning and afternoon. Participants can take either or both.

Join Arnold Arboretum propagator Jack Alexander to learn basic techniques for propagating most woody plants in a special abbreviated version of the 2-day workshop he has taught for decades at the Arnold Arboretum. The workshop will take place at the Wakefield estate on Brush Hill Rd in Milton.

The workshop will be offered in two sessions; participants can choose either or both of the sessions. The morning session will focus on seed collection and propagation. The afternoon session will focus  on hardwood cuttings and preparation of a propagation case.  Participants will plant cuttings and seeds in their new propagation cases to take home with them.

While materials will be provided, participants are encouraged to bring their own hand pruners, a sharp knife and an apron if they desire. Some plant material will be collected from the Wakefield Estate grounds regardless of weather, so dress accordingly.

Fee $90 for the full day, or $50 for either the morning or the afternoon session singly.

Bring your own brown bag lunch; beverages provided.

Pre-registration required; space is limited. Call 617-333-0924 to pre-register or for more information.

Cost for all materials is factored into the class fee.

Wakefield Estate Presents a Morning of Holiday Decoration Demonstrations
As the Fall foliage is fading and falling to the ground, it’s a nice time to dress up your window boxes and containers with holiday trim and branches, and put festive decorations around the house and on the door. The Mary M. B. Wakefield Estate is sponsoring two demonstration sessions the morning of November 22 to help you get inspired. The two sessions will be held at the Wakefield Estate on Brush Hill Rd in Milton.

Starting at 9 a.m.,
Deborah Trickett of The Captured Garden (http://www.thecapturedgarden.com) will present “Creating Winter Window boxes and Containers,” showing how to keep window boxes and containers looking beautiful during the stark winter months.

After a break for refreshments, floral designer and buyer/merchandiser Lisa Ahern of Cedar Grove Gardens, (911 Adams St. Dorchester, http://www.cedargrovegardens.com) will present “Creating Holiday Wreaths and Decorations for the Home” at 10:30 a.m.

Both sessions are demonstrations, so those attending will leave with lots of great ideas, but not finished products. However there will be a raffle of the items created during both sessions.  Following the two demonstrations, participants can join Erica Max, the Wakefield Estate’s Landscape Supervisor for a guided walk around the property to collect material to use later on their own projects.

Pre-registration required. Suggested donation is $15; space is limited.  Please call 617-333-0924 to register.
